Re: Norton hijacked my computer......
start>run>regedit>hkey_local_machine>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>run: This part of your registry tells your computer what to execute when it boots up the OS.

Remove the Norton key(s) from this part of your registry. Don't remove anything you want to have start when you boot your computer.

weird, not showing up there, tried msconfig as well not there either.

-- Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:38 am --

downloaded a program called Revo Uninstaller, uninstalls stuff for you but also looks into your reg after runnning the regular progam uninstall to catch anything leftover, got the nss.exe reg file, so hopefully it worked.

Re: Norton hijacked my computer......
If revo doesn't work, you're going to have to manually delete every key in your registry related to Norton.

I recently did this with quicktime (It insisted that I update it every 30 seconds, needed to uninstall for the update, bitch wouldn't completely uninstall. Then I couldn't re-install it because it didn't uninstall all the way), over 500 keys to manually delete was loads of fun. Fuck QT, and fuck apple. I use a third party program that plays QT files now.

The process for this will involve opening up regedit, edit>find. Put a field in the search that you know keys for norton have in the title. Then proceed to hit "f3, delete, enter" a shitload of times.

Re: Norton hijacked my computer......
yeah, i quit using Norton along time ago, they got so big, and use
alot of resorces on your computer. I listen to a computer show on
saturdays, they recomment either webroot or CA for your virus
scans. Right now I am using CA, probably gonna switch over to
webroot, when my subscription runs out.

Re: Norton hijacked my computer......
The Norton removal tool actually seems to work properly - it may be the only symantec product that does.
