Don't Drink and Drive

Don't Drink and Drive
Ok this is my plead to people to not drink and drive...

Last night I Was enjoying a day off and out with the girlfriend. I got called into work because of a multiple accident involving two drunk drivers and a sober driver... I couldn't get the girlfriend home so she had came with me.

I hopped into the plane with her and we began formation flying up to the lovely north. Upon landing I had to take one of the drunk drivers, he had multiple broken bones and issues breathing the medics we're working overtime on him.

The other two planes had the other people... My boss was flying the innocent sober person to whom was unconscious and still coughing up a lot of blood.

My Girlfriend was absolutely shocked at what was going on in the back of the plane. The winds were a bitch last night and with blowing snow the runways were barely visible, and because of the strong crosswind I had to do a sideslip landing, not very fun with these kinds of conditions...

(sideslip involves giving full left rudder and dipping your right wing towards the ground, so you're going right wing first then just before you hit the ground your kick the plane straight and level.)

Once on the ground and taxi'd over to our hangar, I watched both drunk drivers Get into the back of the ambulance... The innocent person... there was no need, died while in the air...

Statistics are amazing, Most drunk driving accidents, the drunk survives... so please don't drink and drive. Might not be your life that ends, but a 17 yr old kids life.

I kind of regret doing everything I could to get the injured person to the hospital as fast as I could. But, hey it's my job

That's sad and truely people should not drink and drive.

Now a couple of questions? What were you using the plane for? Why were you using a plane? etc

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
if u can do a sideslip..that means u can do a de-crab and a crab...and that in my books earns a LOT of respect from me man
tuffluck with the sober guy dying..but u did ur best
and ur right...an extra drink can sometimes mean an extra 10 years in the can or worse...a life-time of regret
and this is a sideslip landing guys...extremely difficult to say the least

ofcourse this was just a display landing done under calm conditions

this is the best video i could find of a crosswind / sideslip landing
needless to say that the gears (tire assembly) after it needs to be rechecked lol

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
Scoop, well said bud, and VERY good advice. First and foremost I'll tell you what I'm sure you already know, but it's people like you and all the medical people and fire fighting people, etc, that I have NOTHING but respect for anyone that puts their own life on the line to try and help save someone else's life. So, hat's off bud, keep in mind that you will NOT be able to save them all, but you can do everything you can to try and increase their chances. And again, cabs are cheap folks, not worth taking a chance.

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
Always said to myself.. never drink and drive.

And Ive never done it aswell. I had alot of oppertunities to drink and then drive.. but its useless.

When I drive and had some alcohol.. and the next moment I hit someone or crash into a car, and someone actually dies. Ill end my own life knowing that ive end someone else his life for just some foolish need to drink. Fuck that.
Hey dumbass! I'll find your childhood pet, dig it up, and eat that son of a bitch! Then I'll superman punch your grandmother so hard her colostcomy bag will explode all over your old family photos!

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
There is actually a much easier solution, just dont drink in the first place.

Seriously, how many wives have been beaten by their drunk husbands? how many women (and men) have been raped becasue they were to drunk to know what was going on? How many inoccent drivers/pedestrians have been killed by drink drivers?

People keep bleating on about how bad cigarettes, and ecstasy etc are, but in my view alcohol is a greater devastating force on society.

On another note, I also have huge respect for those that work to save lives, ie ambos, firefighters, etc. You people are amazing!!! :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
[THANATOS Wrote:.Atomic"]I drink, but I don't drive.

This is where the problem starts..

How many people have their first drink and say "I want to be an alcoholic", or "I want to be a drunk driver", or "I want to be a violent drunk"? No one of course, but it does not stop it from happening. The truth is no one really knows how they will act when drunk so why take the risk?

I know there will always be alcohol (and i am scared the way young people today 9-17 year olds are drinking alcohol like its water) but if you do not have the will power to stop at 1 or 2 drinks then you should not drink at all.

Re: Don't Drink and Drive
Just because you drink alcohol doesn't mean you suddenly lose all control of your actions. If you are opposed to drink driving, you will be opposed to drink driving whilst drunk. People like to use alcohol as an excuse, but in the end, there are no excuses. You will do things like order indian food, or forget things, or throw up, but you won't make choices that go completely against your morals.

I didnt say that getting drunk = doing something illegal, what i am saying is that you connot be 100% certain that while being intoxicated you will not do something which will have a significanly negative impact on someones (including your own) life. It could even be a matter of being too drunk to properly administer first aid.

I also dont agree that you would not make choices against your moral code. I am sure that a large number of those who have driven while drunk would normaly (ie when sober) advocated against drink driving. So while some would stick to their "morals" you cannot say that all who drink would.
