USB and PS2 ports not working
Question.
My motherboard is not recognizing any USB or PS2 ports. Does that mean the MB is a goner? I have a USB kb and mouse, but it is not recognizing it, even on different ports. I've attach a USB to PS2 converter adapter to the kb and mouse port and it didn't recognize either. It will boot up Windows fine, but can't do anything w/o the kb or mouse. Any suggestion(s) besides getting a new mb? Thanks.

It is the EVGA 650i Ultra mb by the way.

Re: USB and PS2 ports not working
If I/O ports are truely gone, then you can try buying a PCI based USB card and try that.

Re: USB and PS2 ports not working
see if it works at boot, i.e. when the computer is first turning on try pressing the setup key for the BIOS, typically f2, if it works and lets you into the bios it is a windows issue, if it doesn't let you in, it is a MB issue, also try a different KB

Re: USB and PS2 ports not working
Go into bios, reset everything to default, reboot, see if they're working, if they are, go back into bios and set things back to how you like 'em. If they're still fubar after doing he default thing, errr, try and find an electrician, get an io card that will work, or look into a new mobo. Good luck dude.

Re: USB and PS2 ports not working
Hmmm...I was able to find and used the PS2 keyboard and it worked, but I don't have a PS2 mouse. I reset the bios to default and still no dice. Guess I'll be looking for a new motherboard.

Does this mean I will lose everything since I have to reload Windows on the new motherboard?

Try and do a backup if you can, or just save like your bookmarks, pw's, save games, etc. onto another hd and/or backup device. Not sounding good though. Sad

Re: USB and PS2 ports not working
Usually you can unload all your drivers and shut down. Move your drives and stuff to the new computer and when you boot click cancel when Windoze tries to install drivers. Use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean you registry of your old drivers. Install drivers from new CD, reboot, download latest drivers and install. See if system is working ok.
