Vid Card(s) upgrade time?
Currently running 2 XFX Radeon 4890's with a 1 gig of DDR5 each. Thinking of going to either 2 5850's or a Gigabyte SOC 5870. Not even considering a 480, just because of heat/noise issues. (no card should be running at 90 degrees most of the time, or be that noisy).
So, I googled around, and my 2 cards are actually about equal with the 5870 in most stuff. But it doesn't have the nice pretty graphics of DX 11 and the true hdmi out (audio as well). Now, I'm running an Antec 902 case, and to be honest, the 4890's are VERY tight fit up against the drive cages. I think the 5850's are actually a little longer than the 4890's, and I KNOW the 5870 is quite a bit longer. Really don't want to have to get a new case just to change vid cards. I'd actually like to get the Saphire 4 gig toxic 5970, but I know a 13" card wouldn't fit. Now, if I buy a 5870, I can put it in the bottom PCI-E slot and it will fit, but I don't think that ones the true 16 bit bus or something like that. Any thoughts? ideas? suggestions? |

Re: Vid Card(s) upgrade time?
Your current cards are more than capable of playing the latest games on max everything at 1080p, I don't see why you're upgrading. If you really are gonna upgrade then you should get a new case cause if you can barely fit those cards then you will need more space for the bigger cards or you will have overheating issues. Once you buy the new card you should also sell your old ones asap so you can reduce the cost of the new card, but you already know this.

Re: Vid Card(s) upgrade time?
I figured that'd be the advice I would get, as I have been doing nothing to change/upgrade as well. Good advice in other words. I think I'll end up waiting for the next gen of AMD/ATI cards, or at least like a 5980 or something, and then go with a Corsair 800D case. Those things are MASSIVE! and will hold any card/cards. Thanks Hades.

Re: Vid Card(s) upgrade time?
When you upgrade let me know ill take those 4890's, or 4890 off your hands. My 4870 is kinda weak now, almost 2 years old, and I cant find a second one anywhere to crossfire lol.
That way ill donate my card to wolvie, he needs some more power. | |||

Pffffffft, yeah, the Ares. HOly @#$#$!#@$!#@$ crazy ass sheet! $1300?? I think not. That's some intense speed with an intense price. I saw something last night/this am saying that NVidia's gonna do a dual 480 setup, think they're still pissed that the 5970 is still kicking their ass.

[THANATOS Wrote:.Metal' pid='17274' dateline='1280338171'] hahah. Well, been reading around, and it looks like ATI will be releasing their next batch of must haves around xmas time. Course, if you buy something as soon as it comes out (which I'm usually stupid enough to do) you're paying a major price premium. But, if they come out with like a 5890 or something, and the price is somewhat reasonable, I think I'll grab one. (or two).
