Guitar Cleaning
What do you guys use to get all that grime off of your fretboards? I've used a variety of things, but nothing phenomenal. I've heard lemon juice is good, and obviously there's little "formulas" companies make. Just curious what you guys use. Mine needs it bad, and I want something to work well this time. I think it's a rosewood fretboard.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
I usually end up using a specific guitar cleaning substance, as I seem to notice that it feels slightly different (slightly waxy) after using a citric oil, and I go too slow whilst cleaning, which makes melting the finish a possibility. But as far as cleaning goes, citric oils work well if you do it quickly.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
Lemon oil is fantastic, just don't use it on a maple fretboard.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
Home uses lemon oil to clean his "wood"; therefore, you should too.

When the fretboard itself hasn't been properly cleaned in 4-5 years, it's bound to be dirty regardless.

5 years of grime on either side of your frets HAS to make your guitar play like shit. Why didn't you clean it? lol

lol read carefully. I haven't PROPERLY cleaned it in that time. I've used water and paper towels and scraped shit off with the side of a pick. Other than that, nothing that I can think of.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
i like my little cleaning kit, keeps my guitars nice'n clean...i <3 my viper with EMG81 85s with the set neck...only problem is the set bridge, but my V has a FR with passive EMG pickups in them...those on the other hand have been re-coiled to handle nice low tuning, i just need to put my higher gauges back on them, my uber small ones dont pick up d-d with drop B as well.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
I like C tuning the most usually, but I'm too lazy to fuck around with retuning things anymore lately. I just leave it in E and re-do the parts to E "practice version" of songs I want to play. Got 11-46 gauges on their right now, but when I'm playing lower I've used as thick as 56 gauge on the low E string.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
Hey Metal,
Why exactly do you like the Dunlop Formula 65 so much? I don't really see much difference between it and the generic fender guitar cleaner I was using before.

Re: Guitar Cleaning
For one, I've purchased one bottle of this stuff, 5 years ago. It's only about half gone -- I can literally clean a whole guitar on two sprays. That and, it makes the neck feel like polished glass... mmmm baby.
