I would rather have liberty than safety. That is all.
Raise your right hand, and repeat after me.
I do solemnly swear,
To run like a Kenyan.
Teabag mofos.
And shoot 'em in the dick.

Re: Universal Healthcare
I think this whole thing is a case of people going around their ass to get to their thumb. Every one knows healthcare needs to be fixed. That is about the only thing that isn't in dispute. The first place this Congress should start is with addressing costs. Not the costs, that the governement will accure (That will come later) but the costs of standard items used in the medical service. (Worked for years in hospitals so I have seen a lot of this first hand.) There are several things that all hospitals have in common but charge variable rates for. Things like gloves, bed occupancy per night, linens, and more. The goverment should set standard costs for these common items. Flat'en the rates accross the board. So bed occupancy in New York costs the same as a hospital in Small Town, USA. Control the costs that can be controlled. Next would be to eliminate waste. You would be surprised how many supplies are lost to waste. I am not talking about tounge depressors and the like I am talking about small things that add up. Boxes half full of gloves in a room thrown away because the service people don't wanna have to wait till they are empty. Charging a patient for a full box of tissue when only a few are used. Some people claim there are cross contamination issues. Ummm.... no. In these cases there are no issues for cross contamination. Regulating these standard items cost would go a long way to helping reduce medical costs.
Next would be to reform the patent procedure for new drugs. Controlling the costs of common issued drugs will also help lower the costs of overall medical spending.

Then after you have controlled the costs then you go for the gusto and that is insurance reform and tort reform. These two go hand in hand. Cap non economic damages in medical liability suits. Make medical liability about liability and not because someone thinks they got the wrong treatment. There are a lot of court cases where there is no malpractice but it still goes to court raising the costs of medical service and insurance costs. Make medical malpractice a crime, lets get the doctors who are actually at fault and not penalize everyone else.

After the costs are controlled and waste eliminated and the implementation of insurance and tort reform, then we can talk about provinding health care on a national basis and for the uninsured.

Re: Universal Healthcare
That's right Atomic. The government need to regulate the insurance and pharmacuetical industries. They're the ones that is ripping off the consumers. They're already regulating gas mileages on new GM (Government Motors) vehicles. Why can't they do the same with insurance and pharmacuetical industries.

Our government, in general, have already bankrupted Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Postal Service, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and other government run programs. This will be the same result if there is a government run health care. Besides, don't all the uninsured people are covered by Medicaid anyway.

Re: Universal Healthcare
Way to many Canadians and Americans look at Canada's Health care as an example... I'm Canadian and so damn proud, as some of you know.... *whistle*

But Canada's is sooooooo craptastic... The Countries to look at are as Follows: 1.Japan (seriously one of the best), France (INCREDIBLE), and England... these three countries, MAINLY Japan have the best Universal Health care Systems... However I find the U.S. health care system to be a joke, and designed around profits and not around helping the people. It's fine for those who qualify, but for those who don't, or cannot afford it, where are they?

In all honesty, to those who defend the American Health Care System, ask yourselves if it's really working and look at how many die because they cannot afford it...

As for Canada... Why can a homeless person get a free ambulance ride? Why did I as a taxpayer when I was rushed to he hospital have to pay 358 bucks?
