Guide Me!!!!
Ok I have AUS$300 to spend (god love tax return time!!). Initially got very excited at the thought of getting a 24" ASUS lcd. But after thinking that my 4670 might struggle to play games on it, i dont know if i should use the money to upgrade my gpu to a 48x0 and keep the 19" crt i have (which still does a great job for me)!!!

Help a troubled soul!!!!

Re: Guide Me!!!!
I got the XFX HD 4890 XXX at this moment. Bought it for 180 euro's. No Idea how much that is in aussie money.

I think you should go with the LCD. GPU'S are getting cheaper. And yours is able to run most games.
Hey dumbass! I'll find your childhood pet, dig it up, and eat that son of a bitch! Then I'll superman punch your grandmother so hard her colostcomy bag will explode all over your old family photos!

Re: Guide Me!!!!
512mb memory. You cant play it 1600x==== .... especially not with aa3. Sooooo yea, hard decision.

You could look around very well, and buy a 24lcd. Theyre NOT THAT EXPENSIVE. And then a HD4890... also not really expensive.

Re: Guide Me!!!!
I've currently got a Saphire Radeon 4890 1 gig and am running it on a 24" LCD. Works great. Older computer too, AMD 64X2 4400 with just 2 gigs ram. I run AAO 2 at 1920X1200 with everything cranked. So, yeah, that's the way to go Pommie. Just keep in mind that LCD's STILL aren't as good as the old CRT's for color and crispness. But, that being said, my 20" Sony CRT is sitting in my basement gathering dust. ;;)

But yeah, your 4670 should run most games at 1600X1200 with no trouble.

Re: Guide Me!!!!
Ok, well i prob wont be gaming that much with uni starting in a couple of weeks, so ill get a 24" now, and save up for a 4890.

I just cant decide between the Asus VW246H AUS$309

http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/product...code=06494

and the Samsung 2494HS AUS$335

http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/product...code=06617

From what I have heard Samsung makes better monitors, but they all use similar panels?!?!?

Any thoughts?

and thank you Zero and Sneye for your input!!! :x

Re: Guide Me!!!!
I'd go with the Samsung, just for the contrast ratio. I run an ACER and think mine's at 50,000 as well. I have no ghosting in any games or movies, my only complaint is that the really black black's, aren't that black. :-\ Whatever you decide on, either one of those should be fine, you'll be impressed at the HUGE ass screen. As far as the vid card goes, the 4670 will do you fine until the next batch of DX 11 cards come out, at which point, the regular older cards go WAY down in price. Big Grin

Re: Guide Me!!!!
Truth of the matter is, monitor size doesn't effect your gameplay in any way you'd notice. Screen resolution however, can make a world of difference. If you want the larger monitor, go for it, but keep your resolutions as close to what feels good for your GFX card right now.

Always buy the monitor based on the native resolution because you should never change to another resolution. LCD's are only sharp when there is a one to one dot to pixel ratio.

The size is secondary. If it was a 50 in. but the resolution was low enough for your card to handle, it would be ok. The native resolution is what you need to know since ALL applications should be using it.
