Re: BP
BP failed in every single way possible. They have not replied to certain compagnies/country's who'd like to help them out and solve the whole issue. Instead, they come up with theyre own lame idea who fail every time.

Re: BP
First off, BP didn't necessarily deny any help from other countries that was being offered. They simply just weren't allowed to accept it due to the Jones Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merchant_M ... ct_of_1920
. That's right, a government policy enacted almost a century ago barred foreign assistance in this mess. Also, there is the problem of just "capping" the well. You see, it's not just leaking from the top, it's also slightly leaking in other areas. Read: "I took some time to go into a bit of detail concerning the failure of Top Kill because this was a significant event. To those of us outside the real inside loop, yet still fairly knowledgeable, it was a major confirmation of what many feared. That the system below the sea floor has serious failures of varying magnitude in the complicated chain, and it is breaking down and it will continue to. What does this mean? It means they will never cap the gusher after the wellhead. They cannot...the more they try and restrict the oil gushing out the bop?...the more it will transfer to the leaks below. Just like a leaky garden hose with a nozzle on it. When you open up the nozzle?...it doesn't leak so bad, you close the nozzle?...it leaks real bad, same dynamics. It is why they sawed the riser off...or tried to anyway...but they clipped it off, to relieve pressure on the leaks "down hole". I'm sure there was a bit of panic time after they crimp/pinched off the large riser pipe and the Diamond wire saw got stuck and failed...because that crimp diverted pressure and flow to the rupture down below." That is the #1 reason as to why they are drilling relief wells. The two relief wells will reduce pressure at the leak and hopefully what's left can be captured using the same method they are using now. Once that's acheived, they will pump in concrete and permenantly seal the leaking well. ![]() Then, there's the clean-up effort. Seems to me that the government is doing the least they can about this. You know there's a problem when the states are having to tell the gov to get bent and take care of business themselves. I'm not trying to say that BP isn't at all responsible for this though. They cut corners and took their sweet time at first trying to fix this. As of right now, BP is capturing about 25,000 BPD (Barrels Per Day) and that number is steadily rising. |

Re: BP
Russia has been suggesting throwing a small nuke down there, or a large conventional charge to collapse everything. The more I think about it, the less crazy it seems.
Obviously the conventional charge would be better for the environment. And yes, BP is the sole owner of responsibility for the leak. I don't know why people think the president is some kind of god that can take care of everything. If you are to place blame on the president, don't place it for the leak, place it for the fact that foreigners are drilling for our oil.

Re: BP
The only point intended in the thread was that this retarded congressman is appologizing to BP cause the President is trying to make them pay for the damages this spill has/will cause(d).
I think it's fair that they should pay for the damages and also for the cleanup.

Told that yesterday to my parents aswell. Put a small bomb on it, make it all collapse. but I think there could be a danger of charging the oil that will lead to the source?! Or... I dont think its crazy though, if it would work.. they should do it.

Re: BP
This whole thing is fucked up. BP will only act to serve themselves, as they are a corporation. Ill be interested to see the final total bill and how much they actually pay out. BP should be charged with murder of the 11 people for deliberately failing to update their systems and make it safe. They were continually fined for failing to meet requirements but once they paid their fines they continued to leave their rig/rigs unupdated.
also president obama is sucking super hard at the moment, not specifically in regards to this spill or incident but in general. So not wearing his shirt anymore.

Re: BP
I've read a little bit about the whole "nuke the well" theory. There is an issue with this idea. From what I understand, they are afraid that if they detonate a large explosive in the well itself that it could implode, collapse on itself and cause oil to leak from fissures in the ocean floor. So, if that happened, not only would you still have an oil leak, you'd have oil leak from the ocean floor itself... all over the place.
Another note: BP still had the option to just simply destroy this well one way or another and stop the leak. They didn't do that because they'd rather continue to pump oil from the well instead of "wasting" it, the southern coastline be damned. In regards to how the government is handling this: 1) I think the government needs to be involved in the because it's a CATASROPHE. Once this is all said and done, a number of countries will feel the affects of that oil slick, tons of wildlife will die, and fragile environments will be destroyed. Cleaning what what we can is going to cost millions, perhaps billions of dollars. The gov needs to step in soley because it's their job to PROTECT OUR SHORES. 2) Coordination. The gov has the ability to coordinate the proper resources to get this thing cleaned up. Local governments are stepping up because the Fed won't. I doubt they'll do anything. Obama's been spewing the word "green" so much that it makes be want to stab my earsdrums out with a pencil. This is the perfect time to push alternative fuels and green energy that they aren't going to let it go to waste. Prediction: The next step is shutting down offshore oil drilling. First will be heavily mandating it, making it every expensive to maintain. After that it'll be selling the idle offshore rigs for a chunk of change to Brazil/Venezuela where they will continue on drilling. IIRC, we get about 20% of our oil from offshore drilling rigs. Eliminate them and you could assume that price would increase atleast by 20%. |
