How to manage ipod touch & ipad on same computer?

I have an ipod touch and plan on getting an ipad soon. The only thing I want them both to share is music. How do I get itunes to do this? I'm afraid itunes will overwrite my touch apps with ipad or vice versa. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening and have each device work properly when synced?

As always THANATOS is the best place to get info for you techie questions. Personally I think you just need a "Widget". They are for sale on Ebay at a fairly reasonably cost. Of course, you can always buy a Zero at a discounted price.
