Whats a good phone
Looking for a new phone, we dont have the amazing phones the US does here in Canada.

Ive looked around a fair amount and from what i can tell the Samsung Galaxy S, and the HTC Desire Z are the best ones in addition to the Blackberry torch for business.

Was wondering what i should get, i got the galaxy s atm, but its giving me some problems with the hard buttons in that they stop working from time to time so i might change the phone altogether.

I only want the phone for reg stuff, and internet use/email. I realized i dont really care for the apps after having the galaxy for a few days.

Should i get a bb torch, or what? (After i got my phone alot of my friends went and got bb's, bbm)

HTC Desire.

Or the torch, it's handy when your friends have it.

If your friends are using BB, then try it.

RE: Whats a good phone
I'm running the Galaxy S. There's a little program you can grab from the app store (might even be free) called one click lag fix. I grabbed a program called quadrant and checked the phone in stock condition, scored like 1200, ran the lag fix, went to 2300! Phone is ridiculously fast. HD video, 32 gig space (with optional 16 gig card) insane amount of apps (android), all the best games, really nice 4 inch screen, etc. And it's now updated to Froyo (Android 2.2). I'm quite happy with it.

A buddy of mine runs the new blackberry, he said it's fine if you're just using it for work, but if you play games, watch movies, tunes, etc. Get an IPhone or a droid. I'll stick with my droid over an IPhone, you can legally open them up, and run whatever damn apps you feel like.

I've got a basically brand new Sony Xperia X10 right here, upgradeable to Android 2.1 I believe (so far), invisishield and a nice leather case. Total cost me about $700, you can have it for $400. Yes, I am THAT nice of a guy. Big Grin

lol i kept the galaxy s. The telenav gps is working w/o a subscription for some reason Big Grin. Ill never get an Apple product, its funny I saw on the news that the new iphone4's had some sort of problem with the new year.

I didnt know that they updated to 2.2, i need to figure out how to do that. Ill pass on the xperia, everything looks the same to me spec wise, and the fact that your selling it tells me it cant be that good Tongue.

My phone scored 905 Sad gonna run the fix see what happens.

RE: Whats a good phone
Updated update. My Galaxy S died. Turns out it's the software upgrade to 2.2 that does it. It burns out the internal SD card in a BIG hurry. Which was a bitch because I was in the process of upgrading the rom and switching to Darky's version at the time it died. Did a bunch of reading on XDA developers and it turns out it's a well documented and known issue. Called Bell, and as soon as I said Galaxy S and updated/upgraded, he went into his carefully written speech. "We are aware of an issue with the software update causing a problem. We apologize for the inconvenience. We'll send you out a brand new updated Galaxy S and credit your account $100." Had the new phone 4 days later. Installed the speed rom fix, upgraded to Darky 8.0, gmail, contacts, and apps (with root of course) all back in the same day I got the new phone. Working perfectly now. Apparently Bell has pulled all the Galaxy S's out of their stores that had the older update. It's like 2.3 or 2.31 now.

RE: Whats a good phone
That is some good fucking service. AT&t would probably charge you for a fix or a new phone + contract.

RE: Whats a good phone
So should I update it again? I updated to 2.2 last money and my phone hasnt died.....yet anyways. But 2.2 did make it a lot slower.

@Hades atleast the plans are better and cheaper in the states. The amount of money we have to pay for service up here means they have fix the fucking phone for free, especially if its their own fault.

Yeah, I'd update it, mines running perfectly, nice and fast. I'm running Darky's 8.0 with a speed mod to boost the cpu clock. Don't remember which one, but all the info and instructions are on xda developers site. Lovin' ma phone!
