Well, ordered 2 new cards.

Now, I'm aware that in November I believe AMD/ATI release their next gen. of cards. But I have no patience at all, so I didn't feel like waiting. Well, got back from fishing yesterday, figured I'd check out my geek bookmarks (Computer) and checked out the GTX 460's. Turns out, 2 of them in SLI make the 480 look slow. So............

Ordered, paid for, hopefully picking up from warehouse in Markham tomorrow or in a few days. Figured I'd give NVidia a try again, as I've always noticed on bridge, you guys calling out E locations, when I'm closer to them than you are, and just don't see them. That and I got tired of waiting around for the full hdmi and not having some graphics options available with the Radeons. Was going to get the Palit super fast versions, but Newegg only had 1 in stock, and again, I have no patience.

Yeah, I feel like a bit of traitor too. I just didn't have the patience to wait for the next gen of ATI. October/November. That and when I'm on vent with the guys, playing like...............bridge. Metal and Hades and them are reporting guys in the def. windows from like ass. truck, I'm at pillars ahead of them and I don't even see the windows! So, figured I'd find out if it's the cards or my eyes. I've got 2 Radeon 4890 1 giggers sitting here in static bags if you're interested.

just like tiger or newegg but they're Canadian. I ordered them online, (about 3 am) and had them set for pickup. They were ready for pickup and noon the same day. In Markham, I think that's close to you isn't it?

So, yeah, got them running in SLI, and slightly overclocked, reran the windows assessment thing and video went from 7.2 to 7.6 on video.

Just finished Splinter Cell conviction, 1920X1200, everything cranked to max, full AA, etc. No problem with speed at all. Gotta re-install Pripyat and Metro 2033 to give them a bit of a workout, and see what's what.

If you cant sell them here, try ebay or craigslist but you have to sell fast or they'll drop even more in value.

im fine with this vid card (rating is 7.6 too ), need to keep some cash for drinking and what not while im @ school. I go to work in markham, i know where ill be buying my next computer from now on.

If you were having trouble seeing across bridge you should have posted here; I had so many catalyst video tweaks that either matched the nvidia ones or were better. You still have to tweak the nvidia settings in the control panel to reduce the fog and increase your visual distance in AA.

One thing ATI doesnt have on Nvidia, is the shadow thing where a shadow will show up through a wall, really useful

Lay on the tweaks my good man! Currently running 258.96 nvidia drivers. In SLI. Was it you that was interested in 1 of the cards I have? Sorry, I'm old and have no memory.

Ya earlier in the summer, i was thinking about taking both of them when you were getting new cards, but I dont have any extra cash to spend now that school started lol. And i dont have any games that require so much power.

I'm not sure about XP/pissta, but on win 7 the 258.96 drivers don't allow for tweakage. Yes, the sliders are there, but they do nothing. You make your adjustments, tab back into the game, and PRESTO: looks exactly the same as before.

ahhh, gotcha. There's beta drivers available, but only 32 bit.

That has been the case for the past couple years, if you want the sliders to affect the game then you have to run it in windowed mode (but then you can't use in-game sliders). I tried using this a couple times but the semi-blurry text in windowed mode was pissing me off for some stupid reason.

Ya, i forgot that nvidia changed their control panel, there is a registry tweak online that allows you to get the old menu back and will let you use it in game. There should also be a setting that allows it to affect games seperately from the o/s ui on the new cp.
