RE: A soldiers viewpoint
you know. I wish i could say that this is asinine, but I can't, yes things happen every day some good some bad. you also have those that take things into what they think and don't stick to their orders. but In the decade I was working with the DoD from the Marines, to the Army, for every negative spot I found on the war, I could read about and find 2 or 3 positive spots on the same war.
Yes we have been there longer than I preferred, but outside of those representing the radical factions, and a small percentage of the population, they never asked us to leave. Afghanistan is the one that is about to become a forced occupation. with the president making the request to the US Government that all Private Security Firms be removed from the country and the President and SECDEF saying, "I don't think we can do that". We say they are "Free" to run their country, they make a free choice to tell us to pull group X out, and we refuse. that is a forced presence that that point. A wonderful thing about Petraeus is the ability to tell what he is thinking regardless of what he says. If he agrees with a decision he will go to bat day and night to protect that decision, when he disagrees he will go barely beyond a no comment. and his only comment on the Afghan President's request was "The President has a tough decision" Do I agree with every decision that the Military makes? No. The racism part is actually more straight prejudice to all things and people that have different views or ideas, but yet is sadly true to an extent but it is not the "Military" per say but a large part of american society as a whole. Example Around September 20, 2001 a large gathering of civilians gathered around a good friend of mine's office to protest / boycott and kept protesting until she agreed to close forever. She was born in the US, her mother is a US born Citizen, her father WAS a Syrian, he was killed about 5 years ago because is was a "Towel Head" neither of these were Military Induced. Personal Example, today we have Muslims that are the "Sleeping Enemy" and I am not going to say that mentality is not with out cause. but a good portion of americans walking down the street when they see a person that "Looks" to be of Arabic Decent regardless of reality, at least thing for a second "Is this guy a terrorist" When I was a kid it was Commies, and guess what, I was a commie along with all my family, or so everyone though. the height of my memory was walking into a gas station in Santa Rosa, NM at like 11PM and being told "We don't serve Commies here", we left discovered they were the only gas station open this late, and we were almost empty, so we go to a hotel and are told the same thing. and my dad, mom sister, brother and I ended up attempting to sleep in the car, had a local cop come and mess with us and ended up taking my dad to jail for a 48 hour hold to clear any possibility he was a spy. we were stuck in some strange town, where we couldn't get a hotel, we finally got gas, and my dad was in jail simply for being russian. No body is perfect. America is in it's adolescent as far as the world goes. look back thru history and all the world powers have had similar methods, the difference is technology. And the US has it.

RE: A soldiers viewpoint
Yes there is racism in the military, as well as the general public. It's always been there and always will be because that's the human mentality, us vs them (Japs, Commies, Towlies). A few months back I read an article on a guy who is fighting some of the racist elements in the military (can't remember his name), his story and the research he did is shocking.
IDK if anyone knows the article I'm talking about but his "mission" started when his son finally confessed and told him about all the hazing at West Point he went through because he was Jewish.

RE: A soldiers viewpoint
This is absolutely sickening and most of that drivel is meaningless. What a panzy wimp socialistic attitude. That guy needs to slapped until he comes to his senses. I could take that speech apart word by word but it wouldn't be worth my time. Who wrote that for him? A speech writer paid handsomely by George Soros? This wimp didn't do this all by himself, there is a bigger agenda behind it.

RE: A soldiers viewpoint
Where does he get the figure of $450,000,000,000/day?
According to this site (I don't know if its reliable) he is running for some office in Florida. There is also some crap about what he did in Iraq. Once again I don't know if the site is legit. <= Disclaimer to prevent Hades from bitching.
