Finally, a space MMO that isn't too over the top. Good and Bad things though. If you are a Star Trek Fan, your gonna love it. Space battles galor, customizable ships, beaming down to the planet etc. If not, you might find it boring. Space combat is very much like that of SFB and SFB:Empires at War with the exception of it being the added dimenson of the Z Axis. The graphixs are SWEET! PVP is fun as it isn't about who has the best stuff it now requires skill, sure better equipment helps (A lot) but a small ship can beat a bigger ship. Right now you are limited to Fed and Klingon, you have to advance thru the first 6 levels as a Fed before you can unlock the Klingon side. (Which is mainly PVP) but it doesn't stop the fun. Also the toon generator is more expansive than I have ever seen and we have been informed there will be more cusimization at launch.
The UI has a pretty decent learning curve but one you learn it, there isn't much to it. You find what works for you and discard the rest. Ground Combat could use some tweeking. In this era of fps shooters the standards are kind of high on that expection and STO doesn't measure up. It doesn't stop you from having fun but it would be nice to be able to do it in first person with a retical. There are some bugs, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a first time MMO.
Overall, going to be a decent game and the devs have already planned on adding more and more content. So the conclusion is, if you are a Star Trek fan there is a good chance you will like the game and have fun with it. If you aren't, you might find it boring and not wanna play, but I encourage you to give it a shot when it launches as it isn't bad and it isn't a FANTASY MMO. Look at it this way, at least it is something to play till Star Wars comes out.
