Trim support and Disk Images.
Well, recently installed a program called HD Sentinel Pro or something like that. Fired it up. Running a Corsair P128 gig SSD drive. Had the old firmware on it, so it couldn't use trim. New firmware's out and allows trim to run. Well, checked it out in HD sentinel, and my performance was at 100 %, but my reliability was critical, said the drive would die in 4 days and recommended an immediate backup. So, uhoh! That's not good. I assumed that the drive was the cause of my many BSOD as well. So, ok, grab something called O and O Disk Image Professional. Install it, tell it I want a full copy of my C: tell it where to save the image (a different hd obviously). So, away it goes, took like 10 minutes to produce a 68 gig image of my c: Kewl! Ok, now I'm read to install the new firmware on the SSD, which of course, formats the drive as well. Hmmm, no floppy drive, ok, I'll just make a usb boot disk. Well, 12 hours later of fucking around, closest I could get was some message saying I was missing HAL.DLL  Ok, fine, waste a cd time, grab the newest UBCD, and fire it up. Boots fine, shitload of options. Doesn't see a single one of my HD's. Fuck! Ok, back into windows, install Poweriso, installed the firmware files and flash for the ssd into the iso, and then burned that. Finally worked! Drive formatted and firmware up to current version. Ok, Re-install Win 7, re-install Disk Image Pro, and then hit restore drive. Hmm, ok, I'm watching it work, and it's only putting a few files onto c: not a shitload of them. Took like 30 seconds tops. WTF? Reboot, nope, programs not there, nope, files aren't there. Shit! WTF? Ok, try it again, now it grey's out my c: just to piss me off. Fine, I'll install it onto my d: (300 gig raptor). So it does, of course, it doesn't tell me it's going to format the drive and then put the contents of the image onto a seperate partition on my d: either. Fuck sakes! So, there's 2 drives that are now fubar'd. Sigh, fine, been at it like 26 hours now. Well, let's check some windoze backups. Installed the latest one. Added a bunch of files, but no programs! Oy Vey! This should NOT be this fucking hard! Fuck this! Fuck it, just start from fucking scratch. Got rid of the 2nd partition on my d: formatted it, break out win 7 did again, install, advanced, format c: again, install. Checked the windows performance thingy. Now, before I enabled the trim thing, the hd test was actually my lowest # at 5.9 with trim enabled it went up to 7.1 which is my lowest score of the test. Not bad. Drive definately feels zippier now. So, re-install everything, think I've just got my printer to go, and I'm pretty much back in business! Just gotta find an old version of like Norton Ghost, which actually works. What a fucking pain in the ass. #:-s

I've only used the Norton Ghost program. But there are a few free ones on download.com

Be sure to delete the kiddy porn and bomb making documents before you enable remote desktop.
Raise your right hand, and repeat after me.
I do solemnly swear,
To run like a Kenyan.
Teabag mofos.
And shoot 'em in the dick.
