Reformat
Hey guys, I've got everything backed up and a CD with an ISO of the Windows burned on it. I rebooted and tried to boot from CD, and it started from the HD. I put the CD in the other CD drive, and selected boot from THAT CD drive... again, started from the HD. Windows failed 1 time to start of the 3-4 times it did this.

Suggestions?

Re: Reformat
dont just change boot from cd to first choice, i would disable all the other choices so that it cannot load from ne thing else. my lap top does this all the time when i boot from anything but hd, ignores me for ever untill i only leave it 1 option

Re: Reformat
Go to BIOS.

In your boot order, have it set to CD ROM first, then HD.

It will go down the list of devices until it can find the correct media to boot from. It does this without exception.

Since it doesn't read the CD and goes right to your HD for bootable media (like it's supposed to), my guess is your BIOS doesn't read ISO files (haven't seen one that does). Sounds like you need a DVD burner and some DVD-RW to copy your install disk in standard format.

All I have is the ISO. I don't have a Windows XP CD, I got this iso from Sneye and burned it.

Re: Reformat
Try unpacking the ISO and burning the files individually on the disk.

I use ISO buster, but there's plenty of other tools out there to get the job done.

Re: Reformat
Easier way is to get Nero or PowerISO or something like that. They let you burn Image files (iso, etc). A free, but kinda advanced, software that is awesome at image burning is IMGburn. I can walk you through the process if you need me too.

Edit: forgot to mention that you don't need to extract iso, it's better to use an image burning software to directly burn the files (iso is a container) from the iso.

Re: Reformat
Actually, the first copy of the iso I burned with my default CD/DVD Burner... that's the CD that it was doing that with. I tried it with the copy I burned with Nero out of paranoia, and that one worked. I'm on my reformatted PC now, working on getting everything back on again.

Hopefully I'll be able to game without lag again now.

Re: Reformat
Nero can be gay at times but overall it's decent. But still not worth the money....

Re: Reformat
PowerISO is really good in these types of situations. Nero can be good it is isnt' having a flakey day.
