Ok, can't get ITunes installed correctly. 9.1 or whatever, 64 bit ver. In the end, it comes down to some sort of registry permission thingy. I'm not even going to bother finding the error thing again, it's a HUGE registry link, where you have to alter permissions, audit permissions, etc. Totally confusing, and even when I went step by step, it still didn't work. I've used windows cleanup (of installed programs)
as well as apples remove/fixit thingy, rebooted dozens of times after uninstalling everything apple, still can't get the damn thing installed. Extracted the contents of the exe, ran the admin stuff, tried installing program by program, step by step, etc. Bottom line is this, quicktime won't install, and without, itunes won't install. From what I've googled, it's a fairly common problem (a lot of people think it's caused by apple), some people have fixed it, most haven't. Any ideas? I'm even thinking about gettng my 64 bit win xp going again just for itunes.
Did you try removing the registry entries for itunes and quicktime?
Don't have correct permissions to delete/edit the registry keys. And that's while logged in as admin and openning regedit as admin. Wierd shit.
Will give it a whirl, but I doubt that'll be much difference. Went to boot into my 64 bit XP OS and am getting the msg about can't find/load ntoskrnl.exe. It appears that my computer has lost the boot.ini for that drive/OS. Ah well, boot from XP CD, repair, bootcfg /restore or /repair should fix it. But, if I'm gone for a few days, it means that I've fux0red up my dual boot and have to redo everything. :-s B-)
Use the Windows 7 disk to run startup repair, should fix it.
My Win 7 was ok, it was the 64 bit ver of XP that was pooched. Well, ok, reset bios to boot from cd first, figured out which cd it boots from first, found XP 64 bit cd, installed, rebooted (this took about 2 hours so far) ahh, ok, progress. Installed XP64, rebooted 27 times, ok, let's get it up and running, double click IE, and it would just create a shortcut to IE on the desktop. Hmmm, strange. Ok, can't install any necessary drivers without net framework installed, joy. Ok, back to Win 7 to get new drivers. Hmm, Win 7 not listed in boot up choices, yay! WTF? Had the problem before, sort of expected it, ok, fine, dig out my Win 7 specialized recovery dvd thing, boot from that. Hmm, new options, stuff I haven't seen before. Ok, well, let's update the malware/rootkit thingy and see what it finds, finds 2 files before I cancelled it, 1 hour in and it was only 1/2 done. Had an old keygen file that was a virus, and yes! it did see twl CDC as a trojan as well, quarantined them bot. Now, used Win 7 to like restore it's boot cfg and rebooted, kewl, all's fine. Ok, screw that version of XP 64, found a 32 bit ver of a student edition. Hmm, ok, student edition, shouldn't need a cdkey, as I couldn't find my original cd. Ahh well, ok, install XP, asks me for the cd key of course. X( :-s hmm, ok, well, fire up IPhone, and 'find' a cdkey to install the damn thing. Ok, installed. Start doing some updates, and of course, the dreaded WGA, genuine crap kicks in. Hmm, ok, 'fix' all that crap. Get ethernet drivers, install 71 updates (SP3 CD!) for the first update, reboot. Ahh, ok, install net framework, and some more updates, reboot. More framework, more updates, reboot. ATI drivers, reboot, XFI drivers, reboot, more updates, reboot. Flash BIOS, reboot, shit! Forgot all my overclocking settings. Went from a working 4ghz to factory 2.67 ghz. Installed all Asus updates, reboot. Put in new Firefox, log into XMarks, all bookmarks, login's, pw's, etc. Back. Install ITunes! It works! Sort of.
Currently doing a sync, that started about 8 hours ago, it got about 80% done, a buddy of mine called as I'm typing this, answered the Iphone, and now it's just started again. Now, it's the 32 gig IPhone S, with about 6 gig free. Should it really take 10 hours to backup and sync? I know that if I don't do it for a while, it has to do all the stuff from scratch, but still, that's ridiculous. Ahh well, nice to have the 2nd OS up and running for when I have to do a fresh install of Win 7.
Isn't technology fun? @-) #-o :-? =p~
iPhone backups can sometimes take forever. Try this and google other tips.

As for the Windows 7 disappearing, that happens if you install XP or older after you install Win 7 or Vista.
Next time you get permission denied in regedit use regedt32 as an administrator and then when you right click you can edit the permissions and give yourself delete permissions
Cool, thanks folks. Did manage to get Itunes installed on the XP Os, and it did it's backup and sync, of course, while doing that, it DELETED all my apps, well, 95% of them anyway, had to re-dl and install of them. Ahh well, it's running, updated, and the OS is working well. When's the new software update for the IPhone out? Will try that regedit32 thing Angel, I didn't know about that one.
Make sure to leave the "i" out just regedt32
